MEMBER UPDATES

National Conference

This year's National Conference was a hit! From our Master Class day to the Dance Assembly, our dancers, coaches, and owners all walked away with some amazing experiences and takeaways to help them take on the new season. Check out the highlights below!

  • Oscar Hernandez, Jackie Consiglio, and Melissa McGhee joined us as Master Instructors the Thursday before the conference. Their insight and energy were so inspiring and the dancers were lit up by the experience.
  • Twenty-three Dance Worlds Athlete Ambassadors were invited to join us in Orlando in April! These dancers demonstrated leadership, strong work ethic, and comradery and will have the opportunity to shadow the social media team at The Dance Worlds and be recognized on the Worlds stage.
  • Carter Williams and Nicole Trigani taught movement and development classes JUST FOR DANCE coaches, owners, and dance athletes.

Dance Assembly

Each year at the National Conference all of the dance coaches, owners, and Event Producers are invited to discuss various aspects of USASF membership and how we can continue to grow and shape All Star Dance as we move forward together. Here are a few general items that were moved forward for discussion through the proper channels:

  • Owners want more dance-only events
  • Events are still not offering athletic trainers (or they leave before the event concludes); would like trainers available on solo days too
  • EPs not upholding guidelines; tiers not being upheld; might be reported but no follow-up
  • Marley warm-up over concrete is still happening
  • Quick change area needs to move closer to backstage for mini and tiny dancers
  • A request to expand performance time between routines (30 min) for youth and under due to safety reasons
  • House music during events is not appropriate
  • Reminder to EPs to offer the performance style when a team registers

SANCTIONED COMPETITIONS

Guideline Updates

Updates have been made to the USASF Sanctioning Guidelines for the 2024-25 season. Included in those changes are requirements regarding the use of vinyl flooring in warm-ups and on stage. Please familiarize yourself with the Sanctioning Guidelines and let us know if you see anything out of compliance at your events this season.

Remember Event Producers are only required to follow these guidelines for USASF divisions (not solos, duets, and trios). For further information contact your Event Producer.

Lastly, we are continuing to work on a Sanctioned Violations Reporting form that owners and coaches can submit while onsite at an event. We will keep you posted on our progress.

Open Division Changes

During the competition season as well as at The Dance Worlds, Open routines will no longer be split into Small and Large (elite or premier). Also, Open Kick is no longer offered as a division option.

General Reminder

We are strongly encouraging cover-ups for your dancers at events beginning this season. At this time they are not required however, concerns have been passed forward regarding athlete safety. Please help us keep your dancers as safe as possible by asking them to wear cover-ups in between routines.

THE DANCE WORLDS

Topics discussed at The National Conference

Many items regarding The Dance Worlds were also discussed during the Dance Assembly at the National Conference. Coaches and Owners were encouraged to provide feedback and general thoughts about what might improve their experience at the event. Here’s a sneak peek at a few items that were shared. Keep in mind, these are not changes but are items that have moved forward through the proper channels.

  • More screens around the venue to display messaging
  • Crowd management in Veracruz B to help with overcrowding concerns
  • Provide an ‘open’ warmup time and location before the scheduled practice floor times since space is limited at the resort
  • Enhanced security measures
