Dear USASF Dance Owners and Coaches, 

Discussions held at the 2023 National Meeting Dance Assembly, as well as with Event Producer members and owners, have led the Dance Rules Committee to believe a closer alignment with studio competition nomenclature could support dance growth efforts within the USASF. Additionally, the committee felt confusion surrounding the term ELITE at the International level (where the term indicates team size) was a reason to explore changing the terminology. In response, the committee passed forward the recommendation to the USASF Board of Directors to change the dance tier names in February.

At that time the board supported the proposal but wanted more voices involved in the name selection. Two calls were held and the entirety of dance membership was invited to attend. After much discussion, three terms were selected to move forward to polling: NOVICE, CLASSIC, and SELECT.
