As stated in May, we would be reassessing the Age Grid on July 15th and August 31st to see if there are necessary adjustments needed to help the fluidity and restrictions of COVID-19 affecting our members.
Below are the August 31st major highlights to the Age Grid for the 2020-21 season. The updated Age Grid can be found on the public site. Please read to be informed. Questions? Contact Ali Stangle.
International Divisions Team Size [cheer]
Reduced the minimum team size from 16 athletes to 10 athletes.
This keeps the U.S. teams in line with the COVID-19 adjustment made by the IASF and allows for consistent team size worldwide in the International Divisions.
This is scheduled to return to a 16-athlete minimum for the 2021-22 season.
Youth, Junior and Senior Elite Club Divisions [cheer]
Reduced the minimum team size from 8 athletes to 5 athletes.
This was a new increase for the 2020-21 season but is being delayed due to COVID-19 and to help gym owners during this time.
This is scheduled to return to 8 athletes for the 2021-22 season.
Non Worlds Global Divisions [cheer]
New divisions added to assist areas where Youth, Rec, School, etc. programs have closed for the season due to COVID-19.
This allows All Star programs to work with these programs and offer an opportunity for these athletes to be part of competitive cheer, similar to what they are used to, when options may be limited or non-existent due to COVID-19.
These divisions are not scheduled to be offered for the 2021-22 season.
Adult Athletes on Open Teams [cheer and dance]
Born in the year 2001 or earlier must have Background Checks and Adult Athlete Specific SafeSport Training.
EVENT PRODUCER WORLDS BID DECLARATION AND PROCESS
The USASF has always left it to the discretion of the Event Producers as to how they determine the number of bids they award to Worlds each year - within limits based on the number of teams at their previous years events.
With so much uncertainty about event enrollments this season, we expect our member Event Producers to declare fewer Cheerleading Worlds Paid Bids at the beginning of the season, and then increase them if the actual enrollments justify them to do so. The USASF has approved the Event Producers to award three Cheerleading Worlds At Large Bids per Paid Bid for the 2020-21 season only. Questions? Reach out to the specific Event Producer to further explain their Worlds bid declaration and processes.
