As the 2020-21 competition season gets underway, I wanted to remind you of several policies and requirements regarding adult athletes, as well as action required for athletes on Senior teams born in the year 2001 (6/1/2001-12/31/2001).
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ADULT ATHLETES
Greenlight background check posted to athlete profile.
Athlete Protection Education training (SafeSport) completed through athlete profile.
IF YOU HAVE AN ADULT ATHLETE THAT IS ALSO A COACH
A background check may be shared from the coach profile to the athlete profile by clicking on the Start Background Check link in the athlete profile and giving permission to share the screening. The athlete should not be charged for another background screening and the athlete profile should update in about an hour. If the athlete has trouble or has been prompted to pay again please email greenlight@usasf.net.
Athlete Protection Education training (SafeSport) is athlete-specific. Adult athletes MUST complete the SafeSport Training for Adult Athletes course through the athlete profile even if they have completed the SafeSport Training for Coaches Course.
I recommend that all adult athletes complete their eligibility requirements a minimum of 3 weeks prior to your first event. Adult athletes that are ineligible are NOT able to be placed on a roster and we can not override the eligibility requirements. Ineligible athletes WILL NOT be permitted to take the floor.
ACTION REQUIRED FOR ALL ATHLETES BORN IN THE YEAR 2001 (6/1/2001-12/31/2001) ON A SENIOR TEAM
New this season: Athletes who are born in the year 2001 (6/1/2001-12/31/2001) participating on a Senior team (not an OPEN team) are now able and highly encouraged to complete the adult athlete eligibility requirements through their athlete profile- although it is not required. We strongly recommend that every adult in your program, regardless of the team they are placed on, completes this process. If an athlete is only going to be on a Senior team and not an Open team, they can choose to opt-out for this year only.
All athletes born in the year 2001 will show ineligible until they either complete the adult athlete eligibility requirements or complete the opt-out process.
IF THEY CHOOSE TO OPT-OUT
Seniors who choose not to complete background screening and Athlete Protection Education (SafeSport) training MUST fill out the Senior Opt-Out Form. FORM MUST BE FILLED OUT AND SIGNED BY THE ADULT ATHLETE!
The athlete will have a code after their last name on the roster to indicate they are a Senior who has opted out of the adult athlete eligibility requirements. If this name is listed on an Open Team roster with that code, the athlete and team are in violation of the PRC and will be held accountable as such.
If said Senior decides to also compete on an Open team, the athlete MUST notify their Regional Director and complete the background screening and Athlete Protection Education training (SafeSport) prior to being added to a roster on the Open team. KEEP IN MIND, it can take up to 2 weeks for the athlete to receive a greenlight. Do not procrastinate.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, or email support@usasf.net. I wish you the best of luck this competition season!
